The highlights of this replay was a first ever hat trick for the club by captain Jim Nightingale and four goals in six second half minutes that saw Town to another comfortable victory over Binfield Reserves and progress into the round of sixteen of the BBFA Intermediate Cup.
Town got the perfect start when Dan Jewell fed the impressive Paul Holloway to cross from the right for the unmarked Jamie Fairchild to head the ball to the left off the stranded Binfield keeper Ash Withers.
However, the next twenty minutes saw both teams cancel each other out with little goal mouth action with the exception being a point blank tip other his own cross bar by Impy Cooke – Chowdhary following the dangerous Dan Broadbear’s overhead kick from six yards following a Binfield corner.
When Luke Williams was brought down by Tom Williams on twenty two minutes to allow Nightingale to extend the lead on twenty two minutes from the penalty spot, it looked as Town had control of the game but Binfield responded strongly with a series of long balls and were rewarded six minutes later. Hesitation between Nightingale and Cooke – Chowdhary allowed the ball to run loose to the unmarked Jamie Tucker to reduce the deficit.
Stung by the goal Town started to play and exert pressure through Williams and Adam Jeffrey. Williams fed Sam Cripps who saw Withes block his shot for a corner, while Withes was again called upon to push away Jeffrey’s long range effort for another corner which led to the third goal. Jeffrey’s corner kick found Nightingale and although his shot was blocked the ball was cleared to Jamie Fairchild who picked his spot in the bottom left corner three minutes from the half time break.
Binfield enjoyed the opening five minutes of the second half but once Jim Nightingale volleyed Richard Thomas’ free kick from close range on fifty minutes for his second on the game, Town took control of the game with further goals by Williams, Thomas and Jeffrey with thirty five minutes remaining.
Both Williams and Jeffrey were exposing the Binfield defence and the cross bar twice prevented Jeffrey’s from adding to his total.
Another foul on Williams, this time by Sam Tighe, led to the penalty that enabled Nightingale to complete his hat trick on seventy four minutes with the scoring completed three minutes later when good foot work by Williams saw him poke the ball past Withes.
The win gives Woodley a home time on 15th January against current BBFA Junior Cup winners P & IC United who have scored six against Cookham Dean and Didcot Town Reserves in earlier rounds.
