First Team vs. Cricklade Town
(Hellenic Supplementary Challenge Cup R2) (A) 2 - 1
Warren Baxter, Matt Godwin
A much changed Woodley Town team travelled to Wiltshire and returned victorious thanks to a first ever goal for the club by captain of the day and man of the match Warren Baxter and a first goal for the first team by Matt Godwin.
On a slopping pitch with long grass Cricklade played the better football as Town struggled to come to terms with the conditions. However, notwithstanding this it was the visitors who took a two goal lead into the interval.
An Adam Jeffrey’s corner saw Craig Hiscock withhold a challenge from a home defender that allowed Baxter to volley the opening goal on twenty eight minutes and it was Jeffrey who was involved in the second goal fourteen minutes later when he took a short corner before firing a low cross to the far post for Godwin to tap in from close range.
Ben Carter reduced the arrears on sixty five minutes but Town stood firm to win a home tie in the round of sixteen on 9th April to Premier Division strugglers Pegasus Juniors.
