United's wait to beat local rivals continues

The opening ten minutes were played mainly in midfield with both sides struggling to create anything. A precursor of the next eighty minutes as chances were few and far between.

A decent crowd had to wait till the twelfth minute for the game's first chance; Ben Broardhurst just missed to the right after United could only half clear a corner.

At the other end a Carl Prestidge shot from the right failed to test Sean Woodward in the Wokingham goal.

Twenty minutes in Woodley had the ball in the net when Charlie Oakley finished well only to see the goal ruled out for offside. More United pressure followed; Greg Beckett shot a difficult chance over after a Jake Nicholls through ball.

A lull in play ten minutes before the break, as both teams repeatedly gave away possession, ended with a superb slide tackle by Woodley centre back Joe Barley thwarting Elliot Rushforth.

The half wound down with the sides trading shots. United's Dave Morgan missed to the left from long range whilst ex Woodley man Jordan Goddard had a shot blocked for the hosts.

Woodley started the second half the brighter of the two sides. Right back Danny Greenwood missed to the right before Nicholls and Oakley fired free kicks into the wall.

Five minutes after the restart there was a long delay due to a clash of heads between United captain Idris Kamara and Wokingham's Matt Booth that resulted in the latter going off with a nasty cut.

The break in play didn't halt Woodley's momentum as Oakley forced Woodward into a decent save diving to his left.

On the hour Wokingham forward Tom Williams collided with United keeper Alex Reed and went down with a serious-looking injury. This caused the game to be stopped for over an hour as an ambulance was called to take Williams to hospital with a suspected dislocated shoulder.

When the game did get underway another stoppage immediately followed as Oakley hobbled off to be replaced by Abdul Kamara. This saw Matt Jones play up front with Kamara joining Nicholls and Morgan in midfield.

Twenty minutes to go saw a nice Woodley move end with Beckett testing Woodward after getting on the end of a Jones flick.

United made another change on seventy four minutes when Teddy Thomas came on for Morgan.

Two minutes after the change saw Wokingham go ahead with their first shot of the half when Rushforth found the left corner from twelve yards after a right wing cross.

Looking for an immediate response Prestidge just missed to the right after a corner was cleared to him outside the box. Moments later Prestidge made way for Liam Wilson.

The game ended with United looking to force extra time; unfortunately the best they could muster were shots by Wilson and Nicholls that were blocked.

FT Wokingham & Emmbrook 1-0 Woodley United
