Cup tie with FC Beaconsfield is finally played, at Rivermoor Stadium!

United progressed to the next round of the County Cup with an away win at Rivermoor Stadium on Monday night to set up a home time with Great Horwood on 14 January 2017.

Woodley had the ball in the net inside the first two minutes when Teddy Thomas rounded Michael Bond in the Beaconsfield goal before slotting home only to see the goal ruled out for offside.

United continued to create chances. Danny Horscroft shot over from a free kick before Liam Wilson missed to the left from twenty yards.

Beaconsfield's first opportunity fell to Andrew Dean who had his shot blocked by Danny Greenwood.

Nineteen minutes in saw Woodley deservedly take the lead with a really good goal. Thomas raced clear of his marker on the left before picking out Wilson with a pinpoint cross who headed into the top left corner; this was Wilson's first goal for the club.

Ninety seconds later Carl Prestidge played in Charlie Oakley; the United striker couldn't generate any power allowing Bond to save whilst Wilson fired over from the right side of the box.

At the other end Beaconsfield came within a few feet of an equaliser when a hooked effort missed to the right after United could only half clear a free kick.

Ten minutes before the break saw Woodley have a golden chance to double their lead when Wilson latched onto a Prestidge through ball; firing a low shot goalwards Bond kept his side in the game.

Beaconsfield had some very quick players and whenever they got on the ball there was always the chance of a goal. Anton Bradley played in Brad Miguez who had his shot blocked by a Greenwood tackle.

On forty minutes Woodley got their second when man of the match Horscroft picked out Oakley who finished well. The final chance of the half fell to Oakley who had his shot saved by Bonds legs.

The second half started with more United pressure. Captain Jake Nicholls picked out Wilson on the left who in turn found Horscroft who narrowly missed to the right.

Beaconsfield defender George Holgate then showed good athleticism to cut out an Idris Kamara pass that would have seen Wilson in on the right.

Ten minutes after the restart Wilson was tripped in the box with the ref awarding a penalty. Oakley stepped up only to see his shot saved by Bond in the right corner.

Just after the hour saw a difficult chance fall to Beaconsfield's Anton Bradley. With the ball dropping over his shoulder he couldn't make a firm contact allowing United keeper Alex Reed to gather.

Woodley made their first change on sixty seven minutes when Dave Morgan came on for Prestidge.

Beaconsfield keeper Bond was having a really good match; once again keeping his side in the game with a decent stop from Oakley who had raced clear on the left.

Oakley was replaced with fifteen minutes to go; Toby Briggs came on and nearly scored with his first touch when a free kick from the left found him at the back post. Firing a shot in from a tight angle Bond once again pulled off a save.

With five minutes to go Beaconsfield had their best chance to get on the scoresheet. A powerful shot from the right was saved by Reed; the rebound fell to a dark blue shirt fifteen yards out who blazed over.

United made their final change with a minute to go when Wilson made way for Greg Beckett.

The games final chance went to Beaconsfield. A free kick out on the right was saved by Reed; a decent stop as it seemed to change direction mid flight.
