After three consecutive wins United went down to a 4-0 defeat in their first home game of the season.
Woodley created the game's first real chance against opponents from the league above when Charlie Oakley picked out Josh Drew; taking a touch he fired a low shot goalwards that was beaten out by Ardley keeper Lee Farrow.
The visitors then took control of the game, bossing possession and looking dangerous in the final third. Eleven minutes in saw Alex Reed in the Woodley goal tip over; the resultant corner was turned into his own net by a Woodley defender.
Sixty seconds later Woodley's bad luck of own goals nearly happened again when Reed saved from centre back Josh Bailey who ricocheted a low cross from the left towards his own goal.
A rare foray into the Ardley half saw United work the ball from left to right and then back to the left again; Drew struck his shot well but it missed to the right, whilst debutant Adam Nditi forced a routine save from Farrow.
At the other end Woodley full back Kaser Chowdhary headed a dangerous cross clear with Jack Kennedy waiting to pounce. More Ardley pressure followed; Abdul Kamara cleared off the line before Reed saved at his near post.
Six minutes before the break the away side doubled their lead with the goal of the game. Jacob Walcott got to the byline before putting over an inch perfect cross that Matt Cruse headed in.
