Szram and Skehan come off the bench to send Woodley into the next round

Woodley put an end to eight consecutive defeats when they beat Shrivenham on Tuesday evening; progressing to the third round of the Bluefin Sports Supplementary Challenge Cup in the process and picking up their first win since the start of October.

Both teams started off cagily having an equal share of the ball but struggling to carve out clear cut chances. United keeper Ben Hitchins pulled off the games first save easily dealing with a tame shot from eighteen yards.

Seventeen minutes in saw a chipped through ball find it's way to Shrivenham's Daryl Charman; with just Hitchins to beat he completely missed his kick! At the other end a good run by Pete Wareing ended with the Woodley forward fouled outside the visitors box. Fraser Mowat stepped up to take the free kick which deflected off a green shirt for a corner. The resulting set piece, taken by debutant George Douglas was headed in at the back post by Wareing.

Looking to double their lead Mowat missed to the left after getting on the end of a left wing cross before Douglas was off target from twenty five yards. The game was end to end; Chris Rivers just missed to the left for the visitors from outside the box.

Three minutes before the break, with Woodley appealing for offside Kias Bonner-Shea broke clear only to see his powerful shot thump back off the bar.

HT Woodley United 1-0 Shrivenham

The twenty minutes after the restart saw the game bogged down in a midfield battle. The only chance of note fell to Charman who saw his effort from eighteen yards deflected behind.

On sixty five minutes United made a change. Ryan Szram came on for the hard working Mowat. Five minutes after the substitution Woodley doubled their lead when a fantastic run down the left by full back Mark Ingram ended with Szram turning home a cross by the former into the left corner.

Shrivenham were starting to dominate possession but were lacking the guile to further test Hitchins; A Charman shot was blocked by Woodley captain Ollie Bridges. With fifteen minutes to go the away side did force the Woodley keeper into a save and it was good one; Hitchins got down well to save from Tom Fowler.

With twelve minutes to go Sam Skehan replaced Rupen Limbu. This saw Wareing move to left midfield with Skeahn playing up front. Two minutes later it was three when Conor Creegan found Skehan who finished well with a shot into the top right corner from just inside the box.

Woodley made their final change with eight minutes to go when Douglas made way for John Mailer. The game ended with some Shrivenham pressure; the visitors hit the bar for a second time after a big goal mouth scramble.

With the game entering the ninetieth minute Shrivenham pulled one back when a long range shot from Fowler beat Hitchins after a deflection. Then deep in stoppage time Wooldey's lead was further reduced when Fowler headed in a cross from the left. Seconds after United kicked off the ref blew for full time to the relief of all connected with Woodley.
