Woodley exit FA Vase after heavy defeat at Tadley

Tadley got at Woodley from the off; Harry Stiff in the United goal was called into action after two minutes, saving well from captain Scott Kinge following a left wing cross.

Nine minutes in and with the home side battering the Woodley goal, Tadley went ahead when Brett Denham turned home from close range after a low cross by James Tennant. Before kicking off, Woodley were forced into an early change. Ollie Bridges went off with a groin injury and was replaced by Keyron Hylton.

United were really struggling at the back and the hosts made the most of Woodley's high line. Ball over the top after ball over the top caught United out and they were lucky not to fall further behind when Denham fired over from just inside the box.

The pressure continued; Conor Creegan headed off the line after good work by Tadley forward Ryan Stevens on the right side of the box. The inevitable then happened on seventeen minutes. Another ball over the top saw Tennant race clear and he took his goal well with a fierce shot that went in off the right post.

Minutes later Tennant came within inches of getting his second when his shot from the left hit the left post. Credit goes to Stiff who got enough on it to prevent a third. It took till the twenty fifth minute for Woodley to muster their first shot; Sam Ellis blazed well over from distance.

Just past the half hour and Tadley went further ahead when a low Denham shot went in after United gave away possession deep in their half. A miserable first forty five minutes ended with two long range United efforts not troubling Tom Hindmarsh in the home goal. Sandwiched between shots by Bevan Van Wyk and Sam Ellis saw a fourth Tadley goal when Stevens headed in from close range.

HT Tadley Calleva 4-0 Woodley United

Woodley started the second period with their best move of the match. A flowing move involving Ellis and debutant Harvey Beales ended with full back Matt Brookling missing from a tight angle on the left.

Fifty one minutes gone and a fantastic individual goal from Grant Powell increased the lead further. Cutting in from the left he unleashed a dipping shot from outside of the box that found the top corner. Six minutes later the scoring was completed when Stevens got his second, after picking up another ball over the United defence.

Tadley continued to create chances; Stiff pulled off a good save to deny a low Powell effort, then just past the hour Omar Cofie replaced Hylton. Stiff was then called into further action to prevent a Denham hat-trick when the forward won a backpost header.

With the game winding down, Woodley twice nearly got a consolation. First Cofie hit the outside of the right post from a very tight angle on the right, then Seun Odusanya narrowly missed to the right after finding space for himself. In the process of shooting, Odusanya injured himself and after a lengthy delay made way for Jordan Phillip.

The game ended as it had started with more pressure from the hosts. United centre back Jabar Juanai, who was making his competitive debut , did well to block a Denham shot before the same player narrowly missed to the right after picking up a clipped through ball.
