The starting line up saw James Pheby and Tyrone May at centre back supported in the back five by keeper, Ashley Smith, and full backs Gareth Davies and Doug Groves. Ishmael Thomas and Dan Watkiss started at centre mid with Lee Wheeler and Lemar Maycock on the wings. Omar Cofie partnered Dwayne Winter up front.
On a blistering hot day, Woodley started well and looked dangerous in the opening fifteen minutes, especially Lemar with his pace on the left and Dwayne showing great footwork up front.
Knaphill went ahead against the run of play with a well taken goal. A quickly taken free kick caught out the Woodley defence, the forward headed the ball on and the winger pulled back to the forward who scored with a spectacular overhead kick.
Knaphill started to look dominant as the half wore on, especially in central midfield. Tyrone picked up an injury and Gareth was moved to centre back, with Conor taking over at right back. Shortly after, Knaphill stole the ball in the middle of the park, released the lively right winger and his cross was again expertly turned in between the defender and left hand post with Ash in goal given no chance.
A third goal arrived must before half time with yet another superbly finished effort, the ball lobbed over Ash first time after a smart one two.
A three nil scoreline at half time might have demoralised many teams but Louis asked the players to rally and they responded well. Young Benji Palmer slotted in well at left back and Conor switched with Ishmael, his energy and fitness helping to even up the midfield battle.
In an even half, possibly edged by the visitors, Ash in goal was rarely troubled. At the other end, Omar had a couple of chances. The second chance was created by a nice ball over the top by Lee which Omar coolly despatched into the corner despite the backtracking defender getting close.
With still ten minutes to play, a second from Woodley might have made for an interesting finish but Knaphill saw out the match quite comfortably.
As a first run out for the team and considering that several players were missing due to holiday or work commitments, this was a decent start and definitely something to build on. The firsts next travel to Cantley Park for a match against Ascot on Wednesday 17th July, kick off 6.30pm.
