Vet's Beat The Good Old Boys

For probably the first time this season Woodley was able to field one of their strongest lineups and they needed it against rivals Goring Good Old Boys, these games are always fast paced and competitive and this was no different.

Goring started the strongest pinning Woodley inside their own half for a good ten minutes of the first half, Utd weathered the storm and slowly grew into the game.

It was Woodley who would draw first blood when a surging run from Wayne Clarke saw him hit a shot from near on 25 yards centre of the goal, it took a slight nick off the defender and this diverted it past the keeper and into the bottom corner.

Goring had a few chances to level up before half time but Woodley held firm to keep them at bay.

It didn't take long for Goring to find an equaliser, capitalising on an error by the keeper who picked up the ball just outside his box, the resulting free-kick was fired in low and turned into the net from the edge of the 6-yard box. Utd guilty of falling asleep at the free-kick.

Utd didn't let this affect them and got back into the game which was now swaying from one end to the other with both sides coping well with the attacks.

Woodley got back in front from the penalty spot with around 15 minutes to go after Loic Srodawa broke clear but got fouled just as he went into the box, he dusted himself down and got up to send the keeper the wrong way. 2-1 Woodley.

Goring saw captain Steve MacMillan sin binned late on for dissent and without him Woodley made it 3-1 with Loic Srodawa rising highest at the back post to meet a cross from Seb Paquis and head past the keeper into the far corner.

3 points for Woodley in a tightly contested affair with Goring as always, with the score at 1-1 it could have gone either way. Good to start the new year with a win.
