After last weeks defeat, this was more like the Vets of last season

After the disappointment of last weeks league opening defeat, United Vets were determined to make sure that was a blip.

With a few players running late a few last minute changes were made with Player Manager John Mailer moving into the DM role and Robbie Farrance starting left wing back.

United started the stronger of the teams with John Mailer firing over from just inside the box after a great Dean Morrison cross, Loic Srodawa went close with the keeper saving at his near post.

Eryk Nawala was alert twice, once to a one on one forcing the midfielder wide and his shot rolled wide and then tipping a shot onto the crossbar before catching the rebound.

United took the lead when Loic Srodawa sent a cross-field pass over to Jon Norris who took a touch and then fired a shot from the corner of the box past the keeper into the near bottom corner.

HT - Woodley Utd 1-0 Thame Utd

Woodley freshened up the side at half time with Andy Gleave coming on for Robbie Farrance with John Mailer going out to left wing-back.

The second half started slowly with no real chances for either side, Substitute Tom Williams who had only been on the pitch for a few minutes provided the assist for the 2nd goal with a superbly whipped in free-kick and Nick Gough timed his run to perfection and rose highest to smash a header into the net for 2-0.

Squad depth was showing again when substitute Danny Young got free on the left and a great cross found Loic Srodawa who scored past the keeper to open up his account for the season.

Another substitute was involved in the fourth goal as Andy Saxby went into a crunching tackle and then released Loic Srodawa who scored past the keeper for his second of the game.

United got a bit complacent thinking the game was won at 4-0 and lost the clean sheet the performance deserved when they failed to put enough pressure on Thame and they worked an opening and fired across Eryk Nawala into the bottom corner.

Into the final minute and United won a penalty and the chance for Loic Srodawa to claim a hat trick, his tame penalty was saved by the feet of the keeper and the scored remained the same.
