Woodley United were defeated 2-4 by Southcote Colts ‘A’ in this Reading & District Sunday Football League Premier Division game. Woodley defended poorly in the opening exchanges and found themselves with a two-goal deficit after 7 minutes. This was always going to be an up-hill struggle but man-of-the-match and skipper Danny Blatchford grabbed one back on the stroke of half-time after a neat interchange with Arran Wells. Woodley were given a life line after 50 minutes when Brodie Davies was bundled over in the box. Blatchford stepped up and calmly converted the penalty into the top left-hand corner of the net. Woodley dominated the opening 20 minutes of the second-half but were dealt a body blow when an excellent free kick on the edge of the box soared over the wall to give keeper Kieran Ranoldo-Ford no chance. Woodley still looked the stronger team but 5 minutes from time another defensive error sealed their fate with Southcote’s fourth goal.
