Woodley United fell to a 4-2 defeat by Athletico Forest despite a brace from Rob Timbers in this entertaining and end-to-end match. United scored first when a quick breakaway saw debutant Max Edgar slip the ball through to Timbers who made no mistake by firing the ball under the body of the Athletico keeper. Woodley’s lead didn’t last long as Athletico were back on level terms five minutes later when an excellent curling free kick round the back of the defence was headed past keeper Kieran Ranaldo-Ford. Continuing the attacking flow of the game saw Athletico go further ahead when United’s defence once again couldn’t cope with the aerial threat. Again, within a few minutes United were back level with Timbers’ second of the game. The game settled down and it wasn’t until the 65th minute that Athletico got their third headed goal. Matters were made worse on 72 minutes when Harvey Detenon got tangled with the Athletico forward chasing towards goal and the referee had no choice but to bring out the red card for denying a goal scoring opportunity. This didn’t deter Woodley who nearly levelled twice in the closing minutes. Athletico scored with the final kick of the game to secure their victory.
