Woodley United finished their season’s campaign with a 3-2 away win at SC United. Woodley had most of the possession in the opening 20 minutes with tireless work in midfield from Peter Shay, Graham Dew and Jonathan Malone. The deadlock was finally broken when a great interchange between Malone and Ollie Jones allowed Jones to skip past the left back and drill the ball across the 6-yard box for Rob Timbers to fire high into the SC United net. Woodley’s dominance was further rewarded 2 minutes later when Malone picked up the ball on the edge of the box, rounded a defender, and fired the ball low and hard inside the keeper’s left hand post. Sloppy defending allowed SC United back into the game on 30 minutes when a wayward pass fell to the SC United centre forward who made no mistake against the diving Chris Harris. The heat took its toll on both teams but it was SC United who found the energy on 65 minutes to beat the off-side trap and dink the ball over the advancing Harris. It didn’t take long for Woodley to regain the advantage when a poor clearance from the SC United defence found man-of-the-match Timbers whose shot gave the keeper no chance. Woodley saw out the rest of the game to secure the three points.
