Teddington earn win against Mohawks
The U13 Mohawks lose out to Teddington.
It was a deceivingly cold morning at the Bulmershe Pavilion on Saturday with the sun out.
The U13 Mohawks faced Teddington, who after winning the division below before Christmas had so far struggled in our Division. A good game in store perhaps?
Alex C started in goal with Owen B in central midfield. We also had the welcome return of Dan R to midfield.
Mohawks started the game with most of the possession, but in our own half. We were attempting to play passing football, but struggled to get the ball to Yuvraj G who started the game upfront.
Jamie M and Sam H linked up well down the left with a couple of "one-twos", but when the move broke down it led to the Teddington opener. Somehow the Teddington striker had all the space and all the time to place his shot past Alex C in a 1v1. He won't get one much easier, it was Christmas 10 months early. Yes, we were slightly caught on the break but any one of our 11 players could and should have pointed out that he wasn't marked. 0-1.
The Teddington Manager will tell you that their next goal was a brilliant passing move. I'd say the same if it was my team. Defensively I've got to say we never got tight enough to the attackers, and again they were afforded time and space to score. 0-2.
Something clicked after going 2-0 down. We started defending better, our passing improved, we got forward, we took shots. From going two down until the end of the half was our best moments and the only time we dominated the game.
Jamie M & Owen B had efforts of note.
We pulled one back when Jamie M cut inside from the left, and curled one brilliantly into the corner from outside the box. The best goal of the game.
My biggest frustration of the second half is that we did not kick on in the same manner in which we ended the first.
Teddington started the second half better, went 3-1 up and from there the game seemed over.
Joe LC with our best effort of the half.
Teddington went on to win the game 5-1. Thoroughly deserved, but we made them look good... To be honest.
Overall, a hard result to take as I thought it was a very good opportunity for us. We've played better in games where we've lost by more this season.
Man of the Match (2 chosen by the players): Janis Z - I've always spoke fondly of players who play 110% to the very end regardless of every situation. Janis stood out in this sense second half.
Owen B - My own mistake was perhaps taking him out of midfield. Had a good game, but when doesn't he?
Onto the next... We've got to keep going!!
Thank you to Nigel and Dave for running the line.
