Woodley Meteors U14 vs Spencer's Wood U14 - Sat 23 January

After a busy evening up to midnight the night before dealing with illness and injuries to players, the team took just 12 players to this away match against Spencers Wood.
With the opposition top of the league, we knew we would be in for a difficult game and a late arrival didn't help matters.
The game started and it became clear why Spencers Wood were top, with some excellent passing moves and pressure on our goal.
Lady Luck was on our side and the opposition failed to capatilise on their domination and on a counter attack Nithtek and Ackiem bundled to ball into the net. 1-0
Spencers Wood then had the move of the match with their player dribbling around and through our defence to make it 1-1 at half time.
The team talk was simple asking for more of the same qualities, as the team were holding on against a strong side.
The 2nd half saw the same pattern to the game and we weren't sure afterwards if the possession statistics were 75% or 85% to them.
Then Hamed won the ball in our half and Ackiem drove forwards finding Thanzeel. Kacper had found space up front and Thanzeel found him with a great pass. He was one-on-one with the keeper, who managed to get a leg to the shot, which then slowly rolled into the net.
2-1 and that resulted in our team being camped in our own half battling the onslaught from the opposition
The boys showed tremendous heart to keep Spencers Wood at bay with saves from Charlie, tackles from Ryan, Haruki, Faris and Hasan, all organised by our captain Zaak.
But the moment, we began to believe that it was our day, was when Hamed gave the ball away in our box and it looked that this was their opportunity to equalise, but Hamed threw himself at the shot to deflect it wide. That won him the Man of the Match award albeit the whole team deserved the credit.
The end of the match saw everyone tired and dirty but with a smile on their face as we told them they won the game "with a whole load of Heart!"
