2 goal Kacper and a Leon penalty save maintains Hammers unbeaten start.
Woodley Utd Hammers U16's drew 2-2 with Bracknell Town to maintain their unbeaten start in the league this season. The fixture was played at Bracknell Town first teams ground on the 3G pitch.
Hammers started brightly with some great attacking football down both flanks (Kacper & Tomasso) with both full backs (Toby & John) joining in and creating pressure but Bracknell were dangerous on the counter with their big centre forward, although Jamie and Sam Reid were coping well in general. Hammers took the lead around the 15 min mark when Kacper finished well from 10 yards out from a good Toby cross. As the first half progressed Bracknell grew into the game and constantly pushed Hammers back and the pressure finally told with an equaliser 10 mins from half time. Kacper went close from a couple of long distant free kicks and Leon made a couple of smarts saves but aggrevated an old knee injury which restricted his kicking.
The second half was very even with both teams attacking without creating any clear cut chances in the opening stages. 10 mins in Bracknell took the lead when a couple of missed tackles in midfield allowed Bracknell to slot in their centre forward who scored from close distance. Hammers fought back and Kacper scored a screamer from 25 yards to equalise, cutting in from the right and firing off the far post with 15 mins left. He nearly did a carbon copy 5 mins later but the Bracknell keeper managed to push the shot wide. A combination of Leon and John prevented Bracknell from taking the lead from a corner moments later, although Leon damaged his knee in the melee but continued on. Leon was forced to a couple of smart saves but with 5 mins left the referee awarded Bracknell a soft penalty. Although struggling with his knee, Leon saved the initial spot kick and got back up to brilliantly save the drilled rebound from close range to keep the score at 2-2. Another save with mins left resulted in Leon having to leave the pitch due to the injury. James took over in goal for the remaining 5 mins and it needed a Sam Reid block in the final minute to keep the scores level. A hard fought draw but a strong performance from a number of players. Hammers need to step up on the physical side of the game but again showed their mettle after going behind. Leon gets MoM due to the numbers of saves, including the penalty whilst playing with an injury.
