A lack lustre first half performance by United saw the team given hope when Jo Walsh- Perks halved the home teams lead in the first minute of stoppage time following home keeper Chloe Hune parring Laura Woodley’s shot
.
Notwithstanding the performance Newbury only managed one first half shot on target and one over the cross but had taken a two goal lead. The opening goal came on eight minutes when Lisa Phillips uncharacteristically spilled a Newbury free kick into her own net.
United responded with Walsh-Perks being denied by a last gasp tackle and Hune pushing a Rachel Panting free kick over her cross bar. However, United were constantly guilty of being caught off side.
The lead was extended eighteen minutes when an under hit goal kick by Phillips found her centre back Sab Kulan. Kulan played the ball back to Phillips whose clearance was charged down by a Newbury forward who then reacted the quickest to the loose ball to score.
The second half was dominated by the visitors that saw Phillips required to make only one save. However, despite the possession and pressure that saw shots wide and into the side netting it was not until the eighty ninth minute that former Newbury player Panting levelled the scores. There was still time for the visitors to snatch the pointed when Louise Williamson found herself one on one with Hune, but the forward hurried her shot straight at the home keeper.
