No goals again for the Ladies
By Mark Rozzier
United stung by Wasps' early goals in each half.
Woodley’s poor run of form continued at home to Warsash Wasps in what is now the fourth consecutive game without a goal.
The eighth minute saw Ellen Surtees’ deft free kick find Rosie Page-Smith whose shot hit the cross bar and went out for a goal kick.
Three minutes later the hosts conceded a needless corner and where punished when Megan Fox was allowed to head the ball past Nicole Haines unchallenged to open the scoring.
Woodley responded well with Holly Wilkins setting up Page-Smith while Shelby Page-Smith and Amie Benton dangerous but shots on goal were comfortably gathered by Wasps’ keeper Rebecca Gardiner.
The closest Warsash came to extending their lead was from another header which was put wide of the goal.
The second half started well for United with plenty of pressure in the final twenty yards of the pitch but shots on goal were either blocked or wide of the target. The hosts were made to pay for this in the fifty second minute when Fox double the lead from a thirty five yard free kick.
The game then took the format of the first half with United enjoying possession but unable to trouble Gardiner with Charley Evans and Mollie Lambourne both seeing efforts going agonisingly wide.
