May Hamblin's first hat trick for the club is the highlight of a comprehensive victory.

United banished last week’s poor performance to record their biggest win of the season over local neighbours Wokingham & Emmbrook.

Despite playing into the strong wind during the first half, the quality of play and quick movement of the ball saw the hosts go into half time leading 5-1.

The tone was set as early as the third minute when May Hamblin ran from left to right behind the visiting back four to anticipate Rosie Page-Smith winning a header and from the edge of the penalty area the cross come shot help up in the wind to go over Megan Bonifacci in goal and open the scoring for Woodley.

Wokingham’s best play Jo Atkins was denied by a fine one on one block by Nicole Haines two minutes later as the opening period went from end to end. Hamblin saw an effort blocked following a Becs Lowes pass while Haines was again called upon to push an effort wide.

Woodley extended their lead on the quarter hour when a good run and cross from the right by Mollie Haines was cleared to the edge of Wokingham’s penalty area where Maddie Sawyer fired into the top corner for her first goal for the club.

Caroline Paterson reduced the arrears after nineteen minutes when her free kick went in at the far post but Rosie Page-Smith responded to minutes later also with a free kick to restore the two goal advantage.

Haines was denied by Bonifacci before Page-Smith beat the visiting keeper in a race for the ball to pass to Sawyer who scored her second after twenty nine minutes play.

After the excited of five goals the game went through a lull with Wokingham’s Tina Leahy going closest to scoring before Hamblin showing good pace and strength beat two defenders before slotting pass Bonifacci for United’s fifth three minutes before half time.

United started the second half strongly that saw Sawyer fire over the bar, Ellen Surtees’ free kick cleared for a corner and substitute debutant Katie Lowther narrowly failing to connect with a Hamblin cross. However, it was the visitors’ who opened the second half scoring on sixty one minutes converting a penalty following a challenge by Surtees.

A minute later Bonifacci gather the ball on her goal line following a scramble after another Surtees free kick before Lowther, unmarked in the penalty area converted a Hamblin cross on sixty five minutes.

Sophie Rabbet saw a shot rebound of the Woodley cross bar and Hamblin was denied a hat trick by Bonifacci before her third goal came when she “ghosted” in on a Surtees chipped free kick with fourteen minutes play remaining.

Haines fired straight at the away keeper before Wokingham had a goal disallowed for offside after eighty two minutes play. The final action saw a Rachel Masters’ cross put into the side netting by another Woodley debutant Charley Evans in the final minute.

N Haines, Edwards, Wilkins, Masters, Surtees, Ward, M Haines, Lowes, Page-Smith, Sawyer, Hamblin Subs used: Lowther, Cooke and Evans.
