Ladies remain unbeaten in the league

The long trip to New Milton to face the league's leading goal scorers saw the Ladies draw their third successive league game and take a valuable point through Rosie Page-Smith's second half strike.

The early stages of the first half saw United under pressure, but with centre backs Clara Stringer and Gemma Bloor continuing in the form shown the previous week, New Milton relied on quick breaks that were comfortably dealt with by the confident Bonnie Messitt in goal or caught off side by the high Woodley defensive line.

United's best chance of a goalless first half saw the Town post hit with home keeper Erin Leonard scooping the loose ball away only for Ellen Surtees to react quickest but see her shot blocked and cleared on the goal line.

The second half saw Woodley play with greater purpose with May Hamblin and Mollie Haines enjoying greater possession on the wings thus creating greater pressure with the best chance again hitting the woodwork. The lead came on sixty seven minutes when Eva Thomas found Haines on the right flank. Haines pulled the ball back to Page-Smith who fired home from twenty five yards over the standing Leonard.

Page-Smith nearly doubled the lead a few minutes later from similar range, the ball landing on the roof of the net, but it was the hosts who started to apply pressure and were rewarded in the seventy seventh minute when that capitalised on a Woodley goal kick and Sarah Cann scored from distance.

Buoyed by the goal Town pressed Woodley with Messitt called upon to give her best performance of the season as the visitors defended resolutely in a game of seven minutes stoppage time to take a deserved point.
