The weather this week was a bit colder but yet again the sun was shining. Despite the pitch now looking worse for wear, the boys started with their usual attacking vigour. We had a lot of early play especially from several of Tom’s long throws into the opposition’s box. Soon the pressure and passing told with Tom intercepting a pass leading to a shot and the goalie pushing the ball away. Thady followed up with scoring right footed from the rebound, carrying on his trend of this season with at least a goal a game.
There was nice interplay from the team with Sam and Tom delivering some great corners. One soon led to another goal this time from Sam who left the defender on the floor and stuck the ball so well it nearly took out the back netting. The boys were playing much better than last week with precise passing all over the pitch. The half time talk asked the team to be more vocal. This came in the second half with players now calling for the ball.
Another well delivered corner led to a Sam shot which the keeper saved one handed but Jayden was there for the strike which he put away with force. The boys were surging again and passing out to the wings leading to a shot from Thady which was saved but Tom made a great finish from the rebound. This seems to be a way we score a lot of goals proving the boys are always alert and ready to pounce on any loose balls. Tom soon scored again with a chip of the defence and keeper. The last goal was from another Tom long throw which Thady stuck and Sam helped over the line.
Although Caversham did come back at us there wasn’t the panic of last week as the team kept a better shape. This week’s effort award went to Tom because of his movement into space to open up the game , and his communication to players when he was in this space .
