Another sunny morning saw the Spitfires eager to continue their winning streak. From kick off they attacked with vigour. Aryan found Thady who’s shot from the left hit the right post with cries for goal line technology turned down. Despite the long grass the boys continued to pass well resulting in Sam, Thady and Aryan all having shots on goal. Eventually the pressure told and the first goal came from a Matt throw to Thady who ran down the left shot and scored.
With the team continuing to press, the second goal came soon after with Thady again scoring from the left with an after match interview confirming it was a cross. The half finished with Sam bringing and unorthodox save from the goalie who used both feet.
The second half the team shape suffered as players were pushing up field. Burghfield were very quick on the break which we didn’t always deal with and to Burghfield’s credited they soon scored. This lead to a very exciting last 10 minutes with both teams concentrating more on attack than defence. Williams strike brought a great save and Jayden just missed the rebound. Eventually the ref blew his whistle and we could breathe again.
The after match talk mentioned we had some great passing football but asked the team to be more ruthless in front of goal and for the team to keep their composure as sometimes the defence went AWOL. The opposition mentioned it was the best game they have ever played. This week’s effort award went to Joe for keeping us in the game and mopping up at the back, not for the first time this season.
