Wokingham and Emmbrook Orange
Great start to the season
Our first game of the season back in the correct age group was against Wokingham and Emmbrook Orange. The pitch looked good, the boys possibly a bit nervous.
However after a lengthy summer holidays it was like the team hadn’t been away. Straight from the kick off all the boys played superbly with precise passing and great movement. Within 2 minutes Sam scored a lovely goal from a passing move with the whole team involved. Wokingham and Emmbrook fought back with a long range shot which Joe had covered.
The next attack resulted in a right foot thump from Jayden going into the back of the net. Again W& E pushed however Matt and Aryan had the back covered well with some very strong tackling. More spitfire attacks led to more goals with Sam's second from off the post and Jayden's second another thump into the top corner. Half time led to a team talk from the new manager who was pleased with the “brilliant display of football including the beautiful passing, movement and tackling”.
A sprinkle of rain and the second half started with Thady flying down the left before striking the ball top right. A goal again straight from kick off. Not yet done another W&E counter led to Joes second save of the game. Thady then again had success from the left with a scoop across the goal and Sam’s hattrick followed shortly after. With Spitfires pushing a high line Joe became the last defender and cleared the ball easily from the final W&E attack , a clean sheet from the goalie. Jayden’s hattrick and forth completed a great team performance.
Special mention must go to William for his debut and extra special mention to Euan . Without him playing for the other team , the match may not have gone ahead as W&E only had 5 players . This is truly an act of sportsmanship. Effort award this week went to Sam who straight from the start of the game worked hard with great movement and passing.
