Woodley United beat two Farnham teams in the Semis and Finals to win the Woodley Saints Tournament for the second time in 3 Years
After cruelly having their application form mysteriously lost in the post last year Woodley United Spitfires U12's were given the chance to retain the Woodley Saints Tournament A stream trophy they won two seasons ago. The team managed to win the tournament this time round after two very close matches in the Semi-Final and Final against strong Farnham teams that both went to penalty shoot outs.
The semi-final ended in a nil nil draw. All the penalties were well taken by the first set of penalty takers and then up stepped the sudden death penalty takers with Louis diving to his left to make a great save from the first sudden death penalty from Farham. Up stepped Liam with his mum Jackie unable to watch as he dispatched a great penalty to send the boys through to the Finals against another very strong Farnham team who were winners of the Surrey Primary League this season.
The Final started badly with a scrappy goal conceded from a scramble in the Woodley goalmouth in the first 30 seconds. Woodley fought back and the pressure paid off with a wonder goal from Jackorini from his left foot, probably one of the best goals of the weekend. Woodley continued to press with Will shooting just over the top of the bar. The final ended 1-1 and so went to penalties again. Two great saves by Louis won the final penalty shootout leading to scenes of celebration from the boys, parents and several other Woodley United teams who had gathered to support the boys.
Lets hope this form, including in the penalty shoot outs, continues into the Nationals at Leicester next Saturday where Woodley United Spitfires will again represent Reading.
Well done to Woodley United Tigers for winning the plate competition making it a clean sweep for Woodley United teams
