Woodley Utd Spitfires beat AFC Henley Hurricanes 4-3
Spitfires started well, despite a slightly late kick off due to no goal nets and the referee pulling out the night before. Toby R and Alex G were doing well in midfield and Dan H and Taylor M were rarely troubled at the back. Spitfires looked dangerous every time they attacked with Max B constantly getting in behind the defence. Spitfires scored when Max B scored after a great counter and through ball from Joseph S. 0-1. It was soon 2-0 when Ethan B scored and Spitfires were dominating. Henley had a few long shots and also hit the post after Taylor M was dispossessed but Will J was rarely troubled. Arguably, the turning point was when Ben H was brought down when he has through on goal and the referee was going to send him off but after discussions with both managers he was allowed to stay on. Toby R struck the resulting free kick into the bottom corner. 0-3.
Spitfires were looking to increase their lead in the 2nd half but it was Henley that came out stronger and soon pulled a goal back. 1-3. Henley were causing problems in behind the Spitfires full-backs and on the heavy pitch Spitfires were struggling to keep the ball; however Ben H scored after racing through on goal. 1-4. Spitfires were starting to give away numerous fouls and Henley were also winning the majority of the decisions and pulled another goal back. 2-4. Ethan B and Ben H both had good chances to score but again it was Henley who scored to set up an uncomfortable last 5 minutes and despite 5 minutes of injury time Spitfires held on for the win. 3-4.
Toby R was named Man of the Match for his passing and work-rate in midfield
