Spitfires denied victory in 'cow field'
Woodley Utd Spitfires drew 1-1 with Bracknell Cavaliers
Woodley were playing their first game in 4 weeks and went into the game missing Toby, Tristan, Jake, Zak, Ike, Tobias & Alex.
On what could only be described as a 'cows field', the game was never going to be pretty as the grass had not been cut in weeks. Spitfires were not going to be able to play their normal passing football so were looking to utilise the pace of George, Ben and Ethan going forwards.
Bracknell took the lead after some neat play down their left saw their striker nip in at the front post and slot into the bottom corner. 1-0. George was causing problems on the right wing with his powerful running but Spitfires weren't able to test the keeper. Jack C was everywhere in midfield and Max B was also working hard to win the ball back. Joseph S was slotting in well at right back and made some great early tackles.
Spitfires were looking dangerous on the break but weren't able to test the Bracknell keeper. At the back, Dan and Taylor were looking strong and were denying the skillful Bracknell striker any clear cut chances.
In the 2nd half, Demi A was introduced upfront and he was causing problems with his strength and height. Spitfires changes to 3 at the back and soon equalised when Ben H found George H in behind the defence and he made no mistake. 1-1. Spitfires were on top with Will H starting to get into the game in his preferred 'number 10' position. Demi A had a great chance to put Spitfires in front but took too long to get his shot away and was eventually tackled in the area. At the other end, Bracknell were looking to get in behind the Spitfires defence but Taylor, Dan and Will W were working well together. George had another great chance but saw his shot hit the post and rebound out to safety.
1-1 final score
Jack C was named Man of the Match was his tireless running and great work in midfield
