Wanderers did force an excellent save from Leon early on in this game and they missed a very good chance in the last two minutes, but United played the better football in large spells and had really good chances of their own too.
Wanderers did start the better but were limited to shots from distance, taking advantage of the strong wind on their backs. Most of those shots were wildly over the bar but one was heading for the top corner before Leon's outstretched arm turned it around the post. That was a great save. As the half wore on, United started to play the better football against the wind and looked to have scored through Sam but he was dubiously given offside so the goal was scratched. The half ended 0-0 though.
In the second half, with the wind at their backs, United dominated possession and as the half wore started to create good chances. The best chances coming from: Corin who hit bar after dancing through Wanderer's back line; from Sam's free kick which went agonisingly millimetres wide with their keeper well beaten; and from Josh late on whose shot from close range also struck the bar.
Having been beaten 5-0 by Wanderers in the reverse fixture, this was a much improved performance from United so we were left really pleased with the performance but disappointed we couldn't turn that into three points. Plenty of positives through and it was a tough decision to name a man of the match with great performances from Corin, Leon and Jack in particular but the award went to Russell who had a very good game.
