Spitfires came away from Bracknell with the three points and their best performance since the first 3 games of the season.
The game started with Spitfires on top but with an early warning as Berks County played a through ball for their 2 pacey strikers to run on to. And on 3 minutes the second of those through balls led to Berks County taking an early lead, just squeezing the ball past Leon's dive. The rest of the half was fairly even with few chances. Once Spitfires reorganised the defence to put a sweeper in, the threats from Berks County went away. Then in the last minute of the half, Sam put a dangerous cross into the Berks County 6 yard box and the County defender on the back post knocked the ball into his own net.
That goal spurred Spitfires into a good second half performance with Sam looking dangerous down the left and linking up with Charlie and Josh well. Spitfires took the lead on 65 minutes when Sam dribbled past 3 Berks County defenders on the by-line and drilled a cross which Charlie met on the front post. Five minutes later Sam doubled the Spitfires lead and he scored his second and Spitfires fourth on 82 minutes to put the game to bed. Spitfires didn't have it all their way though. Berks County are a good side and were a constant threat with their runs down the flanks. All the Spitfires defenders were up-to the test though, with Russell, Alex S and Wes in particular all having good games. Berks County also had four corners in the half but Leon caught two of them and punched the others, relieving the pressure on his defenders brilliantly.
A good win to build on for the remaining games of the season. Sam was the man of match.
