This was a local derby for the lads with lots of school bragging rights on the line.
Spitfires started brightly and a strong run a shot from Joe brought an early save from Spitfires' former goalkeeper, Phil. But Shinfield looked dangerous on the break too, showing a sign of things to come. Charlie and Sam scored 2 quick goals on 20 and 21 minutes to put Spitfires 2-0 up though. Charlie's was a superb turn and shot from just inside the area. Sam's goal came because he reacted quickest when the ball broke free behind Shinfield's defensive line. Despite Spitfires having plenty of chances to increase the lead, most notably two efforts from Samien in the six yard box that both squirmed wide, Shinfield continued to look dangerous on the break. As the half neared an end, Shinfield's no.9 reacted quickest when the ball fell at feet and he smashed the ball against the bar and it came down just over the line!
The second half was a more scrappy affair but Spitfires created the better chances with Sam firing wide to the right of the goal, Alex V firing wide from outside the area, Josh hitting the bar and both Dylan and Alex S having headers they just couldn't keep down. It was Shinfield's no.9 though who made space for himself in the area and smashed home past Leon with 5 minutes left. It was cruel on the Spitfires but if you don't take your chances, that happens.
Man of the match was Josh who looked quality in midfield.
