Late goal by Camberley masks good Woodley performance
An early start in Frimley Green and with no goalkeeper much of the warm up was spent discussing who would play in goal. For the first half, Dylan 'volunteered' and although the half time score ended 2-2 he could have done nothing about the 2 goals.
Woodley started well and went 1-0 up after 11 minutes following a good move on the right which ended with Charlie with the ball at his feet, back to goal around the penalty spot; he turned and shot low in the corner beyond the keeper. For the next 20 minutes Woodley had the better of the possession but chances were few and far between. Then on 34 minutes a freak own goal saw Jack's attempt to prevent the ball reaching Camberley's centre forward saw the ball loop high and over the stranded Dylan into the top of the goal. The Spitfires didn't really deserve that so it was even more disappointing when 4 minutes later Camberley scored a fine goal from range into the top corner. However the Spitfires reacted superbly and Robert's shot was saved but into Samien's path and Samien slotted the ball home calmly.
The second half was much more cagey. Both teams had chances but they were limited. Corin went in goal in the second half and he made a couple of confident saves. But with 3 minutes to go, Camberley got a corner which the Spitfires didn't clear well enough and Camberley scored in the scramble.
Final score Camberley 3, Woodley United Spitfires 2. A good performance and a draw would have been a fair result.
Notable performances from Corin who played well in midfield and in goal and Harry, who had an excellent first half. Well done Dylan too for being first to 'volunteer' to play in goal.
