Woodley United FC held its first annual small a side tournament over the weekend of 3rd and 4th June 2017 which was attended by eighty three teams representing the South and South East of England, but it was local clubs that took honours.

Thank you goes to Steve McMahon for managing the referees who officiated in a total of 260 matches which included two penalty shoot outs in the knockout stages that were won 11-10 and 10-9 in close matches.

Thanks also go to local firms The Blue Moose Graphic Company, MCH Vehicle Rental and SC Hill Building & Property Maintenance for their support and The Bulmershe School, Woodley for allowing their school field to be used for the event together with all the volunteers who freely gave their time in enabling the event to run smoothly.

Woodley United FC Chairman Colum Moon commented “It was great to see participating players across all age groups, enjoying the event and to receive positive and constructive feedback from visiting, managers, coaches and supporters. The tournament has generated vital funding for the club to continue to increase opportunities to play, develop and grow sports participation in the local community. Delivering a successful tournament is only possible with the combined resource of our sponsors, the support of The Bulmershe School and crucially, the exceptional hard work of our club volunteers. As this was our first tournament, we have learnt a great deal about delivering a successful event, to further improve for next year.”
