An historical victory against Alton, see's Ladies go into 3rd round of the SSE Women's FA Cup. We caught up with captain to get her views on the game.

Woodley United Ladies made the most of their reprieve in the SSE Women’s FA Cup to defeat Alton and progress for the first time into the third qualifying round where a trip to FA Women’s Premier League Division One South East leaders AFC Wimbledon awaits on Sunday 8th October 2017.

We caught up with Ellen after the game to get her thoughts on historical win.

Ellen, talk us through today's game?
We were lucky enough to get a 2nd shot in the FA cup so we wanted to go out there and show that we deserved to be in the competition. A quiet warm up and changing room most of the time means we’re up for the game and ready to have a battle. We played as a team today and showed what we can do when given the opportunity. Fought right until the end!

Always a tough game against a competitive side, Alton, what was key to success?
Alton always give us a great game, and that’s the way we like it. We have to be able to battle well against tough teams and come out on top. Today we kept pushing as a team until the end. We didn’t let our heads drop when we conceded and showed how much we wanted to win.

Creating lots of chances, but only a couple goals, what's missing?
It’s always frustrating when chances are created but not taken as it puts more pressure on us as a team. But, it’s still early days and as the season progresses I’m confident we’ll be able to finish teams off early on in games and take the pressure off of ourselves.

Creating history for Woodley LFC, how does it feel for you and the girls?
It’s always nice to win games, but I think the fact that it’s the FA cup and we’ve created history makes it that much more special. This win has definitely given us the lift we needed and hopefully we can take the high spirits from today’s game into next weekend.

AFC Wimbledon next round, what's the expectations?
We know it’s going to be a tough game against AFC Wimbledon in the next round, but we’re just going to treat it like any other game. We go out there and fight as a team. We are definitely capable of great things, guess we’ll have to wait and see what happens on the day.

Another cup next week, this time around against Wycombe - what's your view on the game?
Wycombe are a side that we’ve always battled with in previous seasons. We will obviously be going into the game with a strong mindset and I’m confident that if we play as well as I know we can, we’ll be successful.

Final, but not the least - visible from the side the spirit in the team, and togetherness, what's key for that?
This season we’ve started off as a much closer team showing how much spirit and togetherness we have. Whether it’s complimenting someone on a small thing or the whole team rushing a player who’s just scored. I think the key thing is that we need to trust each other on and off the pitch. We all know what each other is capable of so can play to those strengths. The spirit in the team makes everyone feel at ease, and when there’s less pressure people enjoy themselves more and we can play the football that wins us games.

Next week see the Ladies team travel to Wycombe, to face local team for another cup competition.
