Woodley United gained revenge for a defeat earlier in the season by coming out narrow winners against Richfield Rovers Reserves with a 4-3 score line. Skipper Danny Blatchford opened the scoring on 25 minutes when he looped his free-kick from just outside the box over the wall into the top left hand corner to give the Richfield keeper no chance. Woodley kept their noses in front until the 55th minute when a long throw caused havoc in the box resulting in Richfield levelling the scores. Woodley edged ahead on 60 minutes when Jon Norris tapped in from close range. Their lead didn’t last long as Richfield were awarded an indirect kick in the box for dangerous play and managed to smash it past the Woodley players on the goal line. Man-of-the-match Loic Srodawa restored Woodley’s lead on 75 minutes when he broke away from the Richfield defence and slotted underneath the diving Richfield keeper. Richfield were caught on the break a second time as they pushed forward trying to get the equaliser by Ollie Jones’ pace to make it 4-2. Further drama came in the closing minutes when Richfield were awarded a penalty but failed to take advantage. They did however score in the closing minutes to make it 4-3. The tension got to both teams at the end with both Woodley and Richfield finishing with 10 men.
