Honours shared with the Snakes
Pressure pays off with Harry's late equaliser
There won't have been many games on this Saturday with the freezing temperatures but Berks County play on a 3G pitch and this was a game to warm the crowd!
The Snakes started well with some good passing and movement and they went 1-0 up on 4 minutes with an unchallenged header in the 6-yard box from a corner. They also had another glorious chance but their striker swinging and missing with the goal gaping. That goal sparked the Spitfires into life though and by the 15th minute they were on top. A few minutes later, a free kick was awarded around 20 metres out and Robert rifled the kick superbly into the top right corner. Great strike! A couple of minutes later the Spitfires were 2-1 when Dylan ran onto a lovely weighted through ball from Alex and slotted the ball wide of the keeper. There were other chances in the half but two most the most notable pieces of action were a goal line clearance by Tom and from Dylan through on goal again on 35 minutes the Snakes' keeper brought him down. Amazingly the ref, on the half way line, waved the appeal away so the half finished 2-1 to Spitfires.
Berks County started the second half as they did the first and within 5 minutes were 3-2 up! The second of those goals a bit fortunate as Ben had both hands on the ball as the Snakes's striker came in a kicked the ball out of his hands and then spun to finish.
Like in the first half, that spurred the Spitfires on and they grew more and more into the game. Samien, Charlie and Dylan all had chances but missed the target. With the final whistle getting closer, Spitfires had another free kick on the edge of the centre circle. Dylan cleverly chipped the ball into the box and Harry acrobatically flicked the ball into the net with his back to goal. Three each with three minutes remaining!
So the game finished 3-3 and that was the least the boys deserved on a cold December morning. That's it for the Spitfires in 2017 with a free week next weekend.
