This was a hard fought but deserved 3 points on a cold November morning.
The Spitfires started the match on top as they have many games this season, but today Samien’s well taken goal on 14 was just reward. In fact Zak could have scored just before that goal. On 20 minutes, Robert met Dylan’s cross to put the Spitfires 2up but shortly afterwards, Robert had to leave the field feeling the effects of being hit by the ball where it hurts! Robert returned 10 minutes later with 5 minutes left. A five minutes with a goal from Winnersh, halving the Spitfires lead only for Dylan and Robert to repeat the second goal, making the score 3-1 right on half time. The Spitfires were therefore 3-1 up and very deserving of the lead in a half where Zak could have scored twice and Charlie also had a shot closed down.
The second half was a different game with Winnersh piling on the pressure. They did pull one back from a corner on 59 minutes but other than corners, Winnersh didn’t really threaten as the boys all defended superbly and when Winnersh did get through the defence were met by Ben in fine form.
Man of the match was Ben who did make a series of great saves in each half.
Final score Winnersh Rangers Titans 2; Woodley United Spitfires 3
